News

This fall is going to be an epic battle of the bands, as music games make their triumphant return. Harmonix and Activision are going toe to toe, and the competition for fans is heating up.

The latest volley comes from Harmonix, which is offering its most loyal fans the chance to win a copy of the game (and new instruments) before it’s available in stores. The program is called the Rock Band Road Crew, and it’s essentially designed to create word-of-mouth buzz among friends.

Notably, anyone accepted will get a free “band in a box” (guitar, bass, drums, and microphone with the game software). In order to join the “road crew,” you need to be over the age of 18, complete an application, and submit a video between one minute and three and a half minutes in length (full details on the official site).

If accepted, you’ll also be able to earn other prizes. These include DLC and other Rock Band items. For more on Rock Band 4, check out our most recent preview.

Our Take
Both Harmonix and Activision are betting big that this is the moment for a music game resurgence. We’re seeing some fierce competition between the two companies, with each product offering different features. Hopefully, these companies won’t be singing the blues come release.
