Destiny King’s Fall Raid Launching After The Taken King Release

by Matt Miller on Aug 31, 2015 at 06:10 AM

In a recent interview with IGN, The Taken King creative director Luke Smith offered clarification regarding the upcoming King’s Fall raid, making it clear that players won’t have access to the raid on day one. "But I promise for people who are excited about the raid will know when it's time to take time off work. We’ll give em’ a heads up,” Smith continued.

When we first announced the King’s Fall raid in our cover story a few weeks ago, Smith had already declared that it would be “objectively and emphatically the our biggest raid yet.”

For context, when the original Destiny launched last September, the first raid, Vault of Glass, didn’t launch until a week later.

We’ve reached out to Bungie for any additional comment, and will update the story if the game developer has any additional details to share regarding raid timing.

Our Take
I don’t read this announcement as a delay of King’s Fall. It’s far more likely that the raid is complete, but that Bungie is making the decision to hold off on its release for a few days to give players a chance to level their characters and enjoy the rest of The Taken King before being faced with the potent challenge of a new raid.
