[Update] Divinity: Original Sin 2 Kickstarted In Less Than 12 Hours

by Mike Futter on Aug 27, 2015 at 04:01 AM

Update: In under 12 hours, developer Larian has Kickstarted Divinity: Original Sin 2, and is looking to talk about the stretch goals.

In the video below, Larian talks about being caught so off guard that it hasn't finished up its prep for the game's stretch goals, but anticipates that update will happen shortly.

Check back over at the game's official Kickstarter for more, probably soon.

Original Post: Larian Studios has returned to Kickstarter for the follow-up to last year’s impressive Divinity: Original Sin. The sequel will be again be largely financed by the developer, with additional content funded via Kickstarter.

The Kickstarter carries a modest $500,000 goal, of which more than $300,000 has been raised already. The sequel will support multiplayer for four and includes even more crafting and skill combinations for flexible play.

Backers will get alpha and beta access via Steam. The final version will also include an editor.

You can check out the Kickstarter page for more information. If you missed Divinity: Original Sin on PC (our review), it’s coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this year.

Our Take
I like seeing developers creatively use Kickstarter to enhance their projects. Larian and Harebrained Schemes have created an evolved crowdfunding model that minimizes (though doesn’t truly eliminate) risk, while showing that the developer has more than a little skin in the game.
