You Can Sign Up For PlayStation 4 Firmware Beta Testing

by Mike Futter on Aug 19, 2015 at 07:59 AM

Sony is giving PlayStation 4 owners the chance to put new versions of the firmware through their paces. The application process is simple, and you can complete it right now.

You can only apply via a master account, so if you are a sub-account holder, ask your parents’ or roommate’s permission. The program is schedule to begin in early September.

If beta users do run into problems, Sony is making it possible to roll back to the last public release. You can sign up here with your PlayStation ID.

Our Take
I’m a member of Microsoft’s Preview program, and getting access to things like backward compatibility is great. I’m hopeful that Sony will be doing similar things, giving users a chance to test out new, important features.

There’s always a risk with this sort of thing (regardless of which platform you’re on), so know what you’re getting into first. There might be bumps in the road.
