Red Ash, the Mega Man Legends spiritual successor that had a strange Kickstarter journey, is getting an animated accompaniment and the studio is hoping to expand it.

Red Ash's Kickstarter may have technically failed, but the Kickstarter run by Studio 4℃ (best known for Tekkonkinkreet, The Animatrix, and animated shorts based on Halo and Batman) to create an animated short based on Red Ash was successful. Despite that success, however, Studio 4℃ is hoping to expand the movie with a longer runtime by continuing its crowdfunding efforts.

The short, titled Red Ash: Magicicada, raised $162,882 of its $150,000 goal on Kickstarter, and is using its own crowdfunding platform, Studio 4℃ Fun, to hopefully raise up to $260,000 in additional funding to make the film 30 minutes long and add add more to the film. The campaign to make the film longer will go until October 14.

Our Take
Red Ash has had a strange journey. Investors, and those related to project (like Studio 4℃) seem very confident in the game and the IP, but the fans and backers have been slow to embrace it. I'm all for something new like a Mega Man Legends, but watching this franchise come to life has been odd.
