Larian Studios Heads Back To Kickstarter For Divinity: Original Sin II

by Kyle Hilliard on Aug 12, 2015 at 03:00 AM

Developer Larian Studios found success on Kickstarter with Divinity: Original Sin raising just short of $1 million, so it is returning to the crowd-funding platform for the sequel.

The Kickstarter is planned for launch on August 26, but in the meantime, Larian is letting those planning on pledging money towards the game pick the backer rewards by heading to divinityoriginalsin2.com. PAX Prime attendees will also get a chance to get some hands-on with Original Sin II's prototype August 28-31.

For our review of Divinity: Original Sin, which we scored a 9, head here.

Our Take
I'm surprised Larian is going to Kickstarter for the sequel. The game was a massive critical success, so I'm surprised Larian wouldn't want to try and fund the game through the typical avenues. Maybe part of the reason the game was so lauded, though, was because of the feedback provided Kickstarter backers. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure the game will have no problem finding backers quickly.
