Capcom Says 'Yes' To Resident Evil 2 Remake

by Mike Futter on Aug 12, 2015 at 05:10 AM

Last month, Capcom asked fans if they were interested in seeing a Resident Evil 2 remake. Thanks to overwhelming support, the project is happening.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabyashi (also know as “H”) created a video to thank fans and announce commencement of development. “It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved,” he says. “The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.”

The game will be developed by Capcom’s R&D Division 1. H says that he and his team will continue to post updates as they are available, but it’s going to be some time before there’s significant news.

In the meantime, Resident Evil’s devoted followers have the Resident Evil 0 HD remake to look forward to. That’s due out in 2016.

Our Take
Once Capcom invited fans to chime in, this was practically a foregone conclusion. It’s great to see that one of the most beloved entries in the franchise is getting completely remade. We probably won’t be playing it until late next year (or 2017), but based on the quality of the Resident Evil 1 remake, it’ll be worth the wait.
