Activision Quarterly Report Includes Digital Revenue Of 55 Percent
Activision is the latest publisher to post huge gains to digital revenue, pushing that category to over half of all sales. The company closed the quarter with better than expected earnings, beating out the same quarter last year.
Net revenue amounted to $1.04 billion, $569 million (55 percent) of which were from digital streams. These include full-title sales, DLC, and in-app transactions (like Hearthstone card packs).
As publishers start working more in the free-to-play space, you'll see engagement reported as a metric of performance. Activision's monthly active users grew 35 percent year-over-year, with time spent playing growing 25 percent.
Activision called out Destiny, which now represents 20 million registered players that have clocked 2 billion hours of gameplay, averaging out to 100 hours per player. The publisher will be holding an earnings call this afternoon, during which more information about the fall lineup may become available.

Our Take
Activision Blizzard is making a solid push in the free-to-play space, with Hearthstone and Heroes of the Stone. Both are clearly bringing in huge revenue, with room to grow. Of note, Activision continues to show gains in digital, keeping in trend with other major publishers.
