[Update] Xbox Live Currently Experiencing Issues

Update: Xbox Live continues to experience issues, but the error has changed.

Originally, Xbox Live was suffering from sign-in issues. The latest from the Xbox Live status page says the issues with Xbox Live are now affecting unlocking achievements and buying downloadable items.

Xbox Live's status report page is currently showing issues related to signing into Xbox Live.

There is no definitive source of the issues, but Microsoft is aware and working on a fix. Here's what the site currently says:

Are you having issues signing into Live? We’re aware of what you’re experiencing and we’re working with our partner to get it fixed. Thanks for being patient while we work, Xbox members! We’ll update you as soon as we have additional information.

Issues are also apparently affecting Xbox Live related websites.

Our Take
I am currently signed into Xbox Live streaming Despicable Me 2 on my Xbox One, so the service isn't totally crippled. You might be able to get on if you haven't been experiencing issues already.
