Hearthstone's New Expansion Is The Grand Tournament

by Daniel Tack on Jul 22, 2015 at 12:10 PM

Today at a special event, Blizzard announced a new expansion for Hearthstone, featuring 132 new cards – The Grand Tournament. Those familiar with the Argent Tournament in World of Warcraft know what to expect – a large assortment of cool characters coming out to do battle!

The expansion is set to launch in August, so as with other Hearthstone announcements the actual content is quick to follow. There's a new mechanic in the set called Inspire that triggers when a player uses a hero power, and a ton of new neutral and class cards. Several new cards were showcased during the announcement – at first glance, it looks like hero powers are what things are built around for this set!

Our Take
Increasing the card pool by 130 is a great thing for Hearthstone, so just as with Goblins vs. Gnomes before it, these new cards will lead to new deck archetypes and strategies, and flesh out the fledgling card pool with more options. I can't wait for Grim Patron decks to go out of style, and hopefully The Grand Tournament makes that happen :) In all seriousness, the new mechanic looks really cool and I can't wait to have access to the motley assortment of colorful characters that Blizzard brings out for The Grand Tournament.
