[Update] Microsoft Says Fable Legends Release Date Was Incorrect

by Mike Futter on Jul 15, 2015 at 12:56 PM

Update: Microsoft has informed us that the date listed in the video we originally reported on was inaccurate. A Microsoft spokesperson has provided us with the following statement: “We look forward to opening the world of ‘Fable Legends’ to players this holiday, but don’t have anything more to share on specific release timing. The date listed in the San Diego Comic-Con Xbox recap video was incorrect and we apologize for any confusion.”

Original Story:

Fable Legends will take players back to Albion this fall, with gameplay that diverges from the series’ history. Instead of a single player quest as a nameless hero, you’ll join friends to square off against a player in the role of the evil mastermind.

Also unlike previous entries, Fable Legends is taking the free-to-play route. Microsoft has run testing phases for the game, but it appears we know when it will emerge for the rest of us.

The October 13 release date was spotted by GamesRadar in the Xbox San Diego Comic Con recap video (at about the 1:50 mark). We expect that we’ll see more of it at Gamescom in August, which will mark two years since the game was announced at that show.

Our Take
I’m looking forward to finally having a chance to play Fable Legends. I’m also curious to learn more about the monetization model (specifically, the pricing), which will be a major factor in Lionhead builds and maintains a community.
