The Nintendo 64's Mario Tennis Now Available On Wii U Virtual Console

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 11, 2015 at 05:33 AM

The very first appearance of Waluigi is now available on Wii U Virtual Console.

Mario Tennis was not the first tennis game starring Mario. That honor belongs to Mario's Tennis on the Virtual Boy in 1995. Mario Tennis (which dropped the possessive apostrophe – tennis belongs to everyone on Ninendo 64, not just Mario) released in 2000. It was well received, but its legacy may be tied forever to Waluigi. It was the first time he ever appeared in a game.

You can grab the game now on Wii U for $9.99.

Our Take
Mario sports games are always a lot of fun, and Tennis is no exception. I appreciate that Nintendo is making sure this is available ahead of the new Mario Tennis game for Wii U. They should try and do these for all major releases.
