What A Star Wars Podracing Game Might Look Like Today

by Andrew Reiner on Jul 06, 2015 at 05:01 AM

Say what you will about George Lucas' Star Wars prequels, but I think we can all agree that, from a conceptual level, The Phantom Menace's podracing was pretty damn cool. And it made for a great deal of fun in video games, too. LucasArts' Star Wars Episode 1: Racer delivered a great sense of speed, nicely designed tracks, and chaos galore. Lifetime sales for the title exceeded three million units.

Deviant Art user Victor Lam-Art's latest piece reflects on this wonderful racing experience, and is inspired by the game's Mon-Gaza Speedway. In a comment, Lam-Art laments, "I wish they would remake the old N64 racing game."

When I first saw this artwork, I thought it was from Batman: Arkham Knight. The rain-slicked street and neon lights look like Gotham. If a developer did take on a new podracing project today, it could very well look like Lam-Art's painting. Take a look at Lam-Art's profile for more stunning artwork.
