Splatoon Gets A New, Free Game Mode Tomorrow Called Tower Control

by Mike Futter on Jun 30, 2015 at 04:28 AM

Yes, Splatoon is getting even more free content tomorrow. We do have one question, though. Why didn’t Nintendo promote the game by talking about its plans to expand it for free a la The Witcher 3?

Regardless of the promotional strategy, things have been good for Splatoon fans. There have been a heap of new weapons, and tomorrow we get a completely new mode.

Tower Control is a race to control a moving edifice in the center of the map. As players climb aboard, it will move toward the opposing end of the map. Of course, being on the tower makes you a target, so your team will need to rally to assist.

This weekend also marks the first Splatfest in the Americas. Players are asked to choose an allegiance (this time its Cats versus Dogs), fight for their cause, and earn Super Sea Snails to level up gear.

You can pick a side now and get a special t-shirt representing your choice. The side that wins the Splatfest will walk away with extra Super Sea Snails.

Tower Control opens up tomorrow, July 1, at 7 p.m. Pacific / 10 p.m. Eastern. The Splatfest runs all day July 4.

Correction: This story originally indicated the new mode arrives tonight, June 30. We've corrected the story to reflect the right date and apologize for the error.
