Visceral's Star Wars Game Is In the Style Of Uncharted, Canceled 1313 Project

by Jeff Cork on Jun 29, 2015 at 05:47 AM

Uncharted writer Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog for EA a little more than a year ago, where she’s working on a Star Wars project with Visceral Studios. There hasn’t been much info on her new game, but her friend (and Nathan Drake actor) Nolan North dropped a few scraps at a recent convention.

North held a Q&A panel at Tampa’s Metrocon 2015 a few weeks ago. YouTube user mrgeekmeout posted video of the talk, in which you can hear North’s comments.

After talking about Uncharted 4’s development and how things changed after Hennig left, North transitioned to her current project (around the 20:53 mark in the video). “And if you’re a big fan of Amy Hennig and her styles of stories, the big thing about her is she’s gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand-new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted,” he said. “And I happen to know a lot about it, and it’s going to be awesome,” he teased in a sing-song voice.

A member of the audience asked if the game in question was the abandoned Star Wars 1313 project – the source of the image above. “No, it’s different,” he responded. “But it’s along the same lines; 1313, I actually did the first mocap tests for that.”

North continued by saying he visited Industrial Light & Magic. “The guys who work there are certified geniuses. I got to put on Davy Jones’ claw.”

Our Take
As far as an actor telling tales out of school goes, this is about as benign as it gets. Considering her Uncharted pedigree, it wouldn’t make much sense for Hennig to join Visceral if they were working on a pod-racer game. Still, EA probably would prefer to keep all of the info about the new Star Wars game as tightly managed as possible – until they’re ready to make their big reveal.
