Lego Minifigures Online Relaunching As Buy-To-Play Game

by Matthew Kato on Jun 22, 2015 at 05:54 AM

Lego Minifigures Online developer Funcom has announced that the once free-to-play title becomes a paid one on June 29 across all its platforms for players who have not already spent money on the previously free-to-play edition.

The transition will cost $29.99 for PC/Mac/Linux players (including all content) and $4.99 for iOS/Android users (including the first world). Users on iOS can start buying new worlds immediately, while Android users won't be able to do so until some time this summer. One of the benefits of the new pay system is that the game's world is now persistent across all platforms.

Despite the new price structure, however, if you've spent any money on the game it's free when it transitions to the buy-to-play format. "If you have previously spent money on memberships or other in-game benefits," reads the transition FAQ (click through to the FAQ), "your copy of Lego Minifigures Online will be upgraded to the full 'purchased' version of the game."

Developer Funcom says that as part of the new structure it's putting in a voiced guide, set-piece moments, new content and features, a narrative, cross-platform play, and more. Screens of the upcoming version can be seen in the gallery below.

Furthermore, existing players will not have to start over if they use the same Lego ID.

Our Take
I do not play the game, but the additions sound meaningful and the fact that it's free to anyone who has already spent money on the game is significant as well. Any thoughts from players of the game?
