There's Only One Way To Get The Donkey Kong And Bowser Amiibo Skylanders

by Mike Futter on Jun 19, 2015 at 08:45 AM

Amiibo collectors are used to paying a little bit more than retail for that one figure they really want. If you're interested in a full set that includes both of the upcoming Amiibo Skylanders, you're going to need two different versions of the Skylanders Superchargers starter set.

Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and the Barrel Blaster are included in the Wii U starter kit ($74.99). Hammer Smash Bowser and the Clown Cruiser are in the Wii and 3DS starter kits ($74.99 and $64.99 respectively). The good news is that Activision is making these figures, and not Nintendo, which has been plagued by supply issues.

There are often good deals on starter packs later on in the product life cycle, so if you're only interested in the Skylander Amiibos (or Amiibo Skylanders?), you won't necessarily need to spend listed price. We asked Activision if they will be selling these figures, which are only compatible with the Nintendo versions, by themselves later on.

"At this time, Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser will be sold via the Nintendo starter packs only, as we wanted to avoid having consumers confused at retail thinking that they are playable on other platforms, as they are exclusive to Nintendo platforms," an Activision representative told us via email. Skylanders Superchargers will be out on September 20.
