Going Back In Time In More Ways Than One With Rare's Collected Anthology
During Microsoft's post-conference event, we got a chance to play some Rare Replay, take in its crisp new visuals, and experience some subtle, helpful changes to classic games.
Only a few games were available to play, including Banjo-Kazooie, R.C. Pro-Am, a pair of Battletoads games, and Kameo – among others. We played R.C. Pro-Am first, and despite being a nearly 30-year-old game, we couldn't help but be impressed with how crisp the game looked running on the Xbox One. The game also featured an arcade-style framed border, which was a nice touch.
Next we played the arcade version of Battletoads and were similarly impressed with how damn crisp the game looked. We beat up an airplane and used jetpacks, and were surprised to learn player one could rewind at any time to undo mistakes. According to Rare, this is present in any of its classic games that don't have checkpoints to help alleviate the impressive level of difficulty that you've surely forgotten about. It sounds like save states will also be available for most of the games.

Though many games were not available on the floor (Blast Corps and Jet Force Gemini were disappointingly unavailable) the menu selection and presentation are still noteworthy with curtains framing each game, and a closed curtains for the unavailable titles.
There were two big popular Rare games we are curious about that are absent from the collection: Conker: Live & Reloaded (the original Xbox remake of Conker's Bad Fur Day) and GoldenEye 64. Conker's Bad Fur Day will be included in the game, but not Live & Reloaded as Rare felt the original Nintendo 64 classic was the one fans were most excited to play. Regarding GoldenEye, Rare said it wanted to keep the collection to only original games, characters, and worlds it had created, as opposed to licensed games.
