Nintendo Has Sold 15 Million 3DS Handhelds In United States

by Mike Futter on Jun 11, 2015 at 05:00 AM

Nintendo has announced that 3DS sales in the United States have reached 15 million. This makes the handheld the eighth Nintendo system to reach that milestone.

The 3DS was first launched in March 2011, but despite its extended length on the market, the handheld continues to find traction. Nintendo reports that sales are up 50 percent for the first six months of 2015 as compared to the same period in 2014, coinciding with the release of the New 3DS XL in the United States.

Our Take
The 3DS continues to woo new owners, cementing Nintendo's dominance in the handheld space. That the company can continue to find success in an environment overtaken by mobile is a credit to the system's library and social features.
