EA Confirms Mirrors Edge Catalyst, With More Info Coming At E3

by Matt Bertz on Jun 09, 2015 at 06:42 AM

Update: EA has confirmed that the next Mirror's Edge game is titled Mirror's Edge Catalyst. As you might have guessed with a release planned for this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2016), we'll be getting more information at E3.

The publisher pushed live a new website for the game, complete with how Faith is conceptualized to appear. Based on the "tattoo trailer" from E3 2013, we already suspected this game is about Faith's earlier years. We know a bit more thanks to a letter from producer Sara Jannson.

"The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience," Jannson writes. "This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players."

Original Story:

Some savvy internet sleuths have uncovered a breadcrumb trail that may lead to the title of the next Mirror's Edge game.

NeoGAF member Rösti tracked down a trademark filing in Europe for Mirror's Edge Catalyst by a J A Kemp, a patent and trademark firm that has a history of working with Electronic Arts. Further sleuthing led to the discovery of a domain name filing of the same name by EA.

The timing would align with an official announcement for the game at E3 next week. The game is currently slated for a 2016 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC

Our Take
We should find out at E3 whether or not this is the official title of the planned release (which would make it sound like a prequel) or an offshoot of some sort. Tune into the Electronic Arts press conference livestream right here on Monday to find out.
