Limbo Developer Playdead Delays 'Debut On Xbox' Title Inside

by Mike Futter on Jun 05, 2015 at 03:05 AM

Playdead has announced that Inside, its first title since 2010's Limbo, won't be making its "early 2015" release window. The developer announced in an email yesterday that the title was taking more time than anticipated.

"After 5 years in development, we, more than anyone, are looking forward to the release," Playdead writes. "We are so close, but getting it right has taken a little more time than we anticipated."

Inside was first announced at E3 2014 at the Microsoft press conference. The official website still lists the game as debuting on Xbox.

The studio isn't ready to discuss a new launch window. "When we know more about the release timing, we will let you know," the developer says. For more on Inside, check out our coverage from last year.

Our Take
Given that we're arguably past the "early 2015" window (and into "mid-2015") this statement does more to affirm the game's ongoing development than anything. Given Limbo's critical success and its eventual release on just about every platform imaginable, getting Inside right means living up to past success. A bit of extra time to do that seems wise in most instances, but especially this one.
