The Witcher 3 Patch Halts Quest Experience Gain For Some On PS4

by Mike Futter on May 28, 2015 at 12:01 PM

If you gleefully installed the 1.03 patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PlayStation 4, you may have discovered a nasty surprise. Some players are reporting that the update has crippled their ability to earn experience from quests.

The good news is that CD Projekt Red is aware of the issue. The bad news is that just as with any patch, the problem needs to be found and fixed and then the update needs to go through certification. A CD Projekt Red employee responded in the forums that the team has located the problem and is working on repairs.

There's no sense of when those might come through, or if we'll have to wait for the next full update in order to see resolution. Note that if you are more than six levels higher than the quest suggests, you won't be due experience (so if you are just noticing that, it's design rather than a bug).

Our Take
It's times like these I'm convinced that patching software is like playing Whack-a-Mole. Unfortuantely, with all the steps required to issue a fix, it can be a few days before you can safely start playing again. This seems like a pretty severe issue, so if you notice it happening don't progress. Go play something else for a bit.
