Xbox One Over-The-Air TV Tuner Now Available In North America

by Jeff Cork on May 20, 2015 at 05:20 AM

Microsoft has announced that the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner is now broadly available for Xbox One. The $60 device gives cord-cutting consumers another option for watching local television broadcasts.

The tuner is fully integrated with the Xbox One, supporting the console's OneGuide channel interface and allowing viewers to pause live TV for up to 30 minutes. The tuner is available bundled with a Moho Leaf 50 digital antenna for $99.99 or by itself for $59.99. The tuner is being sold at Microsoft Stores and Amazon, but the bundle is a Microsoft Store exclusive.

As we mentioned in our earlier story, the tuner gives users of streaming services such as SlingTV a way to watch local OTA broadcasts – something those types of providers don't typically offer.

Our Take
It's easier than ever to build your own cable-like packages on Xbox One, and this adds yet another important component. Sure, you could use your television's built-in tuner, but that's not nearly as convenient or elegant as having everything residing under the same home.
