Nintendo Wins Wordplay Crown In Hire Of Doug Bowser As Vice President Of Sales

by Mike Futter on May 20, 2015 at 04:19 AM

Nintendo’s knack for self-referential humor reached a peak this morning, as the company announced the hire of a new vice president of sales. The company has literally hired Bowser.

This morning, Nintendo announced the hire of Doug Bowser in the lead sales role. Prior to his new role, Bowser spent over seven years at EA in global planning. In that position, he was responsible for forecasting sales of titles across platforms.

At Nintendo, Bowser will handle the company’s North American sales at retail and point of purchase marketing. He’ll also be involved with the Nintendo World Store in New York City.

Our Take
Hopefully Bowser can help improve the Amiibo situation. Nintendo is walking a tightrope, potentially alienating consumers if it doesn’t improve the supply situation. Given his role in motivating sales, Bowser also has the herculean task of moving the needle on Wii U and keeping 3DS traffic flowing.
