Maps Are Art, Especially Etched Wood Cartographs Of The Mushroom Kingdom

by Mike Futter on May 20, 2015 at 11:23 AM

Last year, we featured Alex Griendling’s spectacular map of Hyrule. What drew our eye is that each map is laser-etched onto hand-selected wood. His latest work takes us from Hyrule to a far-off island in the Mushroom Kingdom.

The latest partnership between Griendling and Neutral Ground is a map of Super Mario World’s Dinosaur Land. In addition to the terrestrial areas found in that seminal Super Nintendo title, the artist has included a map inset for Star Road.

The lower right area features a legend of power-ups found in the title. There are a number of coins placed in the lower left near the compass.

This map is slightly smaller than the depiction of Hyrule Griendling created, measuring 14” by 18”. Each has a keyhole slot on the back for hanging.

You can see additional images of the Dinosaur Land map below. They are available for purchase at Neutral Ground for $150.
