Need For Speed Reveal Coming This Week

by Mike Futter on May 18, 2015 at 09:32 AM

You won’t need to wait for E3 to get your first look at the next Need for Speed game. EA has changed its Facebook header to denote the reveal coming later this week.

Ghost Games has been working on the title since the completion of 2013’s Rivals, a launch title on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In May 2014, on the company’s year-end earnings call, EA announced it would be holding back the series to give the developer more time.

“We also decided not to ship Need for Speed game in FY15,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson at the time. “Ghost Games in Gothenburg is working on an innovative new chapter of the storied franchise, and we’ve planned an extended development window to ensure we’re delivering a high-quality experience for Need for Speed players next year.”

EA plans to release the first footage on its own YouTube channel. We’ll have more on Thursday, May 21.

Our Take
Given that we knew Need for Speed was coming back this year, this is more about timing. The game will no doubt appear at EA’s state presentation, but an early reveal lays the groundwork for more detail away from the fast-paced news flow of E3.
