Silver Mario Amiibo In Stores This Month, Not A Retailer Exclusive

by Mike Futter on May 14, 2015 at 03:39 AM

If you happened to miss out on the gold Mario Amiibo earlier this year, you still have a chance for second place. The silver variant will be arriving in stores in just a couple of weeks.

Nintendo says the metallic Mario will be headed to stores on May 29. He offers the same functionality as the Super Smash Bros., Mario Party 10, and gold designs. You can use it with any of the titles in which Mario Amiibo figures are supported.

Nintendo recently reported its year-end financials, touting the success of the Amiibo line. Over 10.5 million of the figures have been shipped worldwide, and the company has been struggling to meet demand.

Thankfully, a recent statement issued by the publisher promises to reissue hard-to-find figures and ramp up production. Given the flood of gray market transactions, this is good news for collectors.

Our Take
I was on board with the Amiibo craze for the first few waves, but after striking out entirely in the last pre-order period, I’m taking a time-out. If Nintendo makes good and ramps up production, I might consider diving back in.
