Hunt The Witcher 3’s Monsters For Prizes Using Google Maps

by Mike Futter on May 12, 2015 at 09:49 AM

Remember a couple of years back when Google Maps became a Pokémon trainer’s dream come true? CD Projekt is doing something similar for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (except these monsters aren’t nearly as cute).

A partnership between Google and GameStop (Disclaimer: GameStop is Game Informer’s parent company) has placed a variety of monsters from The Witcher universe at familiar locations across the globe. If you find one, you have a chance to win prizes.

There are 100 monsters hidden, and the first person to find one wins a $50 GameStop gift card. I spent some time with this and the most obvious locations seem to have been scooped up already (a message when you find the monster will reveal if you’re first).

Use the search bar to pick a location, zoom in, and use Google Street View. If a monster is close, you’ll see glowing red lines near the bottom of your screen.

The contest runs now through Tuesday, May 19 at 11:59 a.m. Central. You can try your hand at the monster hunt here. For more on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, check out our review.
