Patrice Désilets’ Panache Digital Games Has Announcements Slated For E3

by Mike Futter on May 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Last month, Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets announced his new studio's first game. Ancestors: The Human Odyssey was unveiled at Reboot Develop 2015 as a third-person “action-adventure survival episodic” game.

Today, we find out a little more about what that means. Panache sent out a newsletter today with a letter from Désilets discussing the game’s reveal in Croatia. Specifically, he started to put shape around his vision for episodic gaming.

For us it means to present you the best AAA experience through a progressive approach. The narrative experience part will be shorter at the beginning because we will not have the same production capabilities as the big guys out there. We are a small indie shop after all!

But in between narrative game releases you will be able to play Ancestors with your character in the open persistent world.  It is tough for me to fully explain it to you guys without talking about the secret sauce.  At the end I want to clarify that we are not aiming the same episodic stuff as what is on the market right now.  Maybe periodic-progressive is a better word?  We will coin the best term for this in the upcoming months.

Désilets closes the letter with a note that E3 is coming up quickly and that the studio has announcements ready to go. You can see the reveal trailer for Ancestors: The Human Odyssey here.

Our Take
It’s been too long since we played an original Désilets game. I’m excited to see more of what he and his team have been working on, especially if he’s pioneering a new model for incremental development.
