Bungie's Community Raises Over $400,000 In First Week Of Nepal Earthquake Relief Campaign

by Brian Shea on May 10, 2015 at 11:26 AM

Earlier this month, Bungie announced that it was raising relief funds for Nepal, which was struck by a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25. In its weekly update, the Destiny developer gave us a look at how successful the fundraising has gone.

According to Bungie's blog post, the campaign, which began on May 1, raised over $400,000 in its first week. These proceeds were generated by those who purchased the limited edition Nepal Aid t-shirt on the Bungie store. Proceeds from the sales of these shirts are going to Direct Relief, a charity that is delivering medical supplies and other health-related commodities to the Nepalese.

If you'd like to pick up your own Nepal Aid t-shirt, you can click over to Bungie's store to purchase it. For each shirt you order, Bungie will also send you a code for a special in-game shader and emblem. Pre-orders for the shirt end on May 24, but if you order before May 13, Bungie will contribute an additional $15 for each shirt sold up to $50,000 total.

Our Take
Following the earthquake, Nepal was absolutely devastated. It's good to see teams that make some of our favorite games jump in and do what they can to help those affected. It's even more heartening to see the community rally around Bungie's efforts in the manner that it has through the first week of this campaign.
