Watch The Creator Of Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night Play His Game

by Tim Turi on May 08, 2015 at 08:11 AM

Koji Igarashi, the creator of what many consider the pinnacle of the Castlevania series, sits down with Double Fine to play through the game and add insightful commentary along the way.

The Devs Play episode is produced by 2 Player Productions, the talented creators of Double Fine's making-of documentary for Broken Age. Igarashi is joined by Anna Kipnis, senior gameplay programmer at Double Fine, and Ben Judd, a video game agent for DDM who acts as translator here. Igarashi trades the controller back and forth with Kipnis as he discusses the game's engine, the music behind the game, how those candles get replaced every time Alucard knocks them down, and much more.

Igarashi left Konami a little over a year ago. Since then, he's been working on mobile titles at ArtPlay, but he's dropped hints in the past that he's potentially interested in creating a spiritual successor to the Castlevania series. On top of that, a website popped up recently aimed at Castlevania fans, asking them whether they prefer battling monsters with a sword or a whip. The site even includes the Twitter hashtag #igavania, hinting further at the developer's continued interest in the series and that style of gothic adventure.
