Microsoft invited Square Enix to create a demo for its Build event showing off the power of DirectX 12. The results are impressive, especially when you realize that the video is running in-engine.

Of course, it’s important to remember that “in-engine” isn’t the same as “gameplay.” Still, these are impressive visuals.

This is a tech demo (and not a real game) titled Witch Chapter 0 [cry]. It’s running on a powerful rig (as you’ll note in the video above), with GeForce GTX cards. Final Fantasy director Hajime Tabata says that this technology will be applied to the development of Final Fantasy XV.

Our Take
This is certainly pretty, and I'm impressed that it's real-time and in-engine, but I want to see gameplay running on an affordable rig. It's not hard to trot out a top-of-the-line machine to wow people. It's what the average gamer can expect from a DX12-compatible machine that matters.
