Techland Offering Up Hefty Prize Pack In Dying Light Mod Contest

by Mike Futter on Apr 27, 2015 at 07:05 AM

Techland is hoping to extend the life of Dying Light with the help of the community. With developer tools in the wild now (with updates coming), the studio has decided to motivate creators with a prize pack that includes a high-end video card.

The Beyond Dying Light contest asks players to use the tools to create a custom map with the theme “three minutes of crazy gameplay.” Creations need to be uploaded to the Steam Workshop by May 11, 2015.

Techland’s senior producer, game designer, and lead level designer will be evaluating submissions based on quality, originality, and experience. And while those that have experience with the tools will have a leg up, Techland has created tutorial videos that you can check out on YouTube.

The prize pack includes a large quantity of Dying Light-branded merchandise, including a sweatshirt, backpack, and mug. It also includes a statuette and an Asus GTX 980 Strix.

You can read the complete rules on Techland’s website. For more on Dying Light, check out our review.

Our Take
Incentivizing the creative community around a title is a smart way to build good will among players. Using contests like this to create more value for existing customers might not result in more revenue, but Techland could leverage these types of activities to build its reputation.
