Square Enix has had a teaser website running for the last five days and now the latest issue of Famitsu has revealed the game to be Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. The latest Star Ocean game will be coming to both PS4 and PS3 and will be developed by Tri-Ace.

Siliconera has more info on Star Ocean 5 from the latest Famitsu. The story takes place on the planet Feycreed 6,000 light years away from Earth and follows protagonist Fidel Camus, childhood friend Miki Sorvesta, and a young girl named Lilia who has lost her feelings and memories. The director has confirmed the tone of the story will be close to Star Ocean 3.

Combat is in real time and your actions change based on how close you are to the enemy. While normal fights will essentially be one on one for the player character like in past games, boss fights are going to be more complicated with each character tackling the boss in unique ways. While events return from past games, enemies will sometimes interrupt them and depending on how you respond the story and ending of the game will be changed.

The PS3 version is the base version of the game, but the team is planning to do something unique with the share button for the PS4 version. The game is about 30% complete and there are no plans for story DLC so as not to upset the fans.

Our Take
It’s exciting to see a new console RPG from Square Enix especially after their struggles during the last generation. I’m also glad to hear that the director seems to really appreciate the series and its fans so the game will hopefully be the in-depth experience fans want. Hopefully the game will be confirmed for localization sooner rather than later.
