Japan is getting a Monster Hunter RPG spinoff with a new art style for 3DS.

You can check out a trailer for the new game below which doesn't offer much insight into how the game plays or what will separate it from the core Monster Hunter series. Some details that can be gleaned, however, is it is an RPG, it will have a new cel-shaded art direction, Palicoes will appear, and a you will be able to ride a special monster mount.

The most recent entry in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for 3DS, has proven to be one of the most successful entries in the series outside of Japan. You can find our review of the game here. You can also find our interview with series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto about 10 years with the franchise by heading here.

Our Take
This seems like a good offshoot direction for Monster Hunter. It's certainly a world ripe for deeper exploration and separate stories in different genres.
