Call Of Duty Website Source Code Details Black Ops 3’s ‘Dark, Twisted Future’

Yesterday, Activision revealed the name of this year’s Call of Duty title. With Treyarch at the helm, there was much speculation that it would be the follow up to 2012’s Black Ops 2. We now know that to be accurate.

This year’s entry in the mega-franchise is Black Ops 3, which will be officially revealed on April 26. However, the source code on the official Call of Duty site reveals a bit more information about the game.

The text reads:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.

This gives a hint at the setting, but also confirms (probably earlier than Activision intended) the return of Zombies mode. The return of the living dead isn’t a big surprise, but given that the official reveal hasn’t happened yet, this more information than expected.

You can check out the first teaser trailer from yesterday. Platforms and release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 have not yet been announced.

Our Take
Activision should know better. The Internet hive mind is going to find every hidden bit of information, and the bigger the franchise, the faster it will happen. Long lead reveals fall apart almost every time, but this bit of information could have been kept safer.
