HBO Comes To Sling TV In Time For Game Of Thrones Premiere

by Mike Futter on Apr 01, 2015 at 10:14 AM

Sling TV launched in mid-March on Xbox One, bringing with it a 30-day trial. If you’re still deciding whether or not to cut the cord, this latest news might help you make a choice.

The service has announced that HBO, which recently announced plans to become available without a cable subscription, is coming to Sling. While no specific release date has been announced, HBO will be added before the April 12 premiere of Game of Thrones.

The premium channel will cost users $15 per month (on top of the $20 monthly fee for the Sling TV core package). That includes one live channel and video on demand that Sling says is equivalent with what HBO offers on other platforms. If you’re accustomed to using the HBO Go app, you’ll still have access to the same programming, just through the Sling app.

Our Take
I’ve been impressed with Sling TV on Xbox One so far in terms of broadcast quality. Now that HBO is being added, it’s going to be much more attractive to cord-cutters.
