Dedicated Chat Servers Headline April Xbox One System Update

by Mike Futter on Mar 27, 2015 at 02:53 AM

Playing in parties has been a bit challenging for some Xbox One users. Those frustrating NAT issue are going to get better thanks to the April Xbox One System update.

Currently in preview, the next patch enables dedicated chat servers. Those not in the preview can take advantage of this if they are partying up with at least one person testing the update now.

The dedicated servers will kick in if players are having problems connecting peer-to-peer. We’ll test this out and report back on our experiences.

Additionally this month, users can start leaving voice messages (a feature that didn’t initially make the transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One). As an added bonus, Xbox 360 and Xbox One users can send voice messages to each other.

The April update is currently in preview and will be rolling out to the general usership in the coming weeks.

Our Take
This might be the kick in the pants I need to get back to Dying Light. I love playing with Reiner, but we waste so much time trying to get our voice chat working that it eats into our game time. The faster we can get into a game (and communicating) the more likely we are to play.
