by Elise Favis on Mar 25, 2015 at 09:58 AM

Ready Player One, the well-received sci-fi novel from author Ernest Cline, is getting a movie adaption. Today, news broke that the film will be directed by Steven Spielberg in conjunction with Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Taking place in the year 2044, Ready Player One tells the story of a virtual reality developer, who promises fame and success to whoever can solve the riddles and discover the easter eggs in his game Oasis. Wade Watts takes on the challenge, even though millions have failed before him. The novel is filled with video game, '80s pop-culture, and virtual reality references.

This movie marks Steven Spielberg's return to Warner Bros. after a 14 year absence, with his last film with them being A.I. Artificial Intelligence in 2001. Ready Player One is Spielberg's next anticipated project after The BFG, a movie expected to release next year.
