Reader Discussion: Do Free Games Or Those You Purchase On Sale Get Played Right Away Or Sent To The Backlog?

The current gaming environment rewards patience. While you can certainly get digital goodies if you buy at launch, those who are a bit more cost conscious can save some cash by waiting on the newest releases.

Whether through digital storefront sales like Steam and platform holders offer, or programs like PlayStation Plus and Games with Gold, chances are you can get get good games at low prices. We’re curious where those titles end up, though.

Do you typically play one or more sale purchases or monthly freebies right away? If so, do you give them all a try just to test them out or do you dive into one and power through?

If you don’t play right away, how long do those games sit on the back burner? We’re curious if PlayStation Plus and Games with Gold motivate play or if games with membership serve a benefit that is largely psychological. The same goes for Steam Sales. Do you play what you purchase, or are you betting future interest against current prices?
