A little over two years have passed since Blizzard released StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the second installment in the three-part sequel. The developer still hasn't offered word on when the third act, Legacy of the Void, is set to release, but we do have new information on an upcoming closed beta.
Blizzard is issuing invites to a closed beta for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void starting on Tuesday, March 31. Beta access will only be offered to a select few at first, with the pool broadening as testing goes on. Fans can look forward to checking out new units like the Protoss' disc-tossing Adept and the missile-firing Terran Cyclone tank. Three maps will be included in the closed beta; Ruin of Seras, Lerilak Crest, and Orbital Shipyard. The first two are set within ancient ruins, while the third takes place on a floating starship repair platform.

Our Take
The StarCraft series has gained worldwide acclaim for its finely balanced competitive multiplayer, and these extended beta testing periods play a huge role in that. This beta announcement serves as a perfect reminder that I need to finally play StarCraft and fill in this one glaring gap in my otherwise complete experience with Blizzard's amazing games.
