In-Game Guitar Straps Will Not Be In Rock Band 4
As someone who's put countless hours into the Rock Band series, I was excited to learn that Rock Band 4 is indeed in development. I spoke with the game's project manager before the news officially hit to ask a burning question: Now that the series is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, does that mark the end of floaty guitars? The answer might surprise you, unless you read the headline.
So... Will the characters in Rock Band 4 have guitar straps, or will they continue in the series' strapless tradition? "The flagship feature of Rock Band 4: guitar straps!" Daniel Sussman, the aforementioned project manager told me with mock exasperation. "It’s so funny that you bring that up. Do you want guitar straps? Do you care? Does it bother you that they’re not there? It’s so funny how much time we have spent trying to calculate the math and the physics, the relationship between the guitar and the character – the strap is so complicated."
That challenge is only compounded by the myriad costume elements and guitar shapes. "It’s one of those things that I notice that it’s not there, and yet I cannot justify the expense to bring it back because it’s ridiculous," Sussman added.
Note: Sussman wasn't as grouchy about the question as it may sound in print.
