Weekend Warrior 02/20/2015

by Jon Gregory on Feb 20, 2015 at 01:00 PM

This week the always entertaining Jeff Cork continues worrying about the destructive influence of his children, and seems unsure of the value of his current consoles; meanwhile, Ben Hanson has given up on playing Grim Fandango the right way, and a handful of people are picking up The Order, Dying Light, and Evolve.

Mike Futter (@futterish): With any luck, Reiner and I will continue our domination of the undead in Dying Light. I'm also planning more time with Darkest Dungeon and hopefully joining colleagues for some Evolve.

Ben Hanson (@yozetty): This weekend my goal is to start and finish The Order: 1886. Have you heard anything about that game this week? Outside of that, I'm hell-bent on playing Evolve with a group of friends/co-workers. That game is at its best when you have five people that rotate between playing the monster, unfortunately you can't do that in anything but a custom match which I believe rules out any sort of progression. It should still be worth it. Other than those two new games on my PS4, I'll be continuing my trek through Grim Fandango. I'm in Year 3 and have fully given up any semblance of hope of solving any puzzles without a guide. Have a good weekend!

Laleh Tobin (@LalehAzarshin): Still hunting all the monsters.

Brian Shea (@BrianPShea): I finally finished GTA V, so I’m going to be jumping back into Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Dragon Age: Inquisition. I also just grabbed a copy of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse to play over the weekend. I’ll probably round out my weekend gaming diet with some online stuff with either Evolve or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves): I have a lot of games on my plate that I could play, but I’m not particularly excited about any one of them. Hand of Fate has been pretty cool, and I’ve sort of started up Apotheon. Briefly, I thought about going back to finish Assassin’s Creed Unity, but I might just download Dying Light instead. Also, cookies.

Andrew Reiner (@Andrew_Reiner): If I’m not deathly ill, I’ll be playing more of Dying Light and Evolve. I’m also playing Costume Quest 2 (I enjoyed the original), and I want to start the Talos Principle. Movie watching consists of Dumb and Dumber To and St. Vincent.

Jeff Marchiafava (@GIJeffM): I still have a bunch of unfinished triple-A games on my plate, but recently I haven’t been able to play anything but Rogue Legacy. The procedurally generated platformer has an insanely catchy gameplay loop of dungeon crawling and collecting a bunch of gold, dying, upgrading your manner, and then plunging back in with your next heir. I want to play more Evolve, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age, etc., but that would require putting down Cellar Door’s ingenious roguelike, which is no small feat.

Matthew Kato (@MattKato): Going to play The Order: 1886 and hope to make more progress in Darkest Dungeon and Life is Strange.

Jeff Cork (@gijeff): I've downloaded a bunch of PS4 and Xbox One games, largely because they've both had some pretty great sales. One of my kids has been on a Monopoly kick, and we might check out some of the digital games that I bought. I like playing actual board games, but these are nice compromises. Also, there's no chance that someone (the youngest) will lose any of the cards, tokens, or tiny houses. Aside from that, I suspect my consoles are going to be very expensive video-streaming devices.

Justin Mikos (@JustinMikos): I’m picking up The Order 1886 and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and going to Buffalo Wild Wings with my fellow interns tonight. I’m hoping to devote some serious time into both games and also continue playing Dead or Alive 5 Last Round which has been really fun. I’m also continuing Majora’s Mask, Monster Hunter 4 and Wolfenstein from last week. It was a slow start to the year, but now there is so much to play! Enjoy your weekend!

Elise Favis (@EliseFavis): Tonight, I plan on picking up Dying Light and Majora’s Mask. Finished Grim Fandango last night, so I’m ready to move on to a new game. I haven’t played a survival horror game in months, and I’m usually a fan of those, so I hope Dying Light will scare the living daylights (or dying lights) out of me. I might play a bit more of Assassin’s Creed Unity, but I’m really not feeling it and it’s beginning to feel like a chore.

Jon Gregory (@JMan240): Danganronpa probably, I'll also definitely be spending some time with Mass Effect 2. Other than that there's about a million things I'm currently in the middle of playing so I'll be throwing darts at a list, so to speak.
