Play Celebrities For Charity In PlayStation Heroes

by Matthew Kato on Feb 13, 2015 at 04:57 AM

Sony has started the PlayStation Heroes program giving you the opportunity to play celebrities in popular games online while also donating to charities.

To participate, gamers must first download the PlayStation Heroes app (available from February 24) on PS4. This is your hub to buy themes and other items – 90% of which will go to charity – as well as earn badges and watch videos of celebrities' showdowns with gamers. The more you contribute, the greater your chance to face off against a celebrity.

So far, Shaun White, Snoop Dogg, Steph Curry, and Yasiel Puig have signed up, with Shaun White the first celebrity up to bat in mid-March playing Destiny (the celebrities will change from month to month).

The Make a Wish Foundation, The USO, and The V Foundation for Cancer Research are the charity organizations currently being highlighted.

Our Take
While microtransactions are a logical way to raise money for these charities, I wonder if they will ever cross into in-game territory and what gamers would think about that.
