Resogun And Defender Creators Join Forces For New Game

by Mike Futter on Feb 12, 2015 at 07:06 AM

Housemarque, the studio behind Super Stardust has announced that its next title will be developed in partnership with one of gaming’s most storied developers. Eugene Jarvis (in partnership with Steve Richie) created Defender, Stargate, Robotron, and other arcade hits.

The most recent title out of Housemarque, Resogun, sparked a number of comparisons to Defender. Jarvis spoke at GDC last year, examining the design of his landmark titles.

Jarvis was honored at DICE 2014 with the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Pioneer Award. No additional details are available about his collaboration with Housemarque yet, but we’ll update should we learn more.

Our Take
With Resogun clearly taking inspiration for Jarvis’ work on Defender, this is quite an exciting announcement. I’m eager to hear more about the project, as I’ve long been a fan of Jarvis and his work, which has inspired so many.
