Xbox One Screenshot Feature Now Running On Devkits

by Mike Futter on Feb 09, 2015 at 03:23 AM

We’re getting closer to being able to take screenshots on our retail Xbox One consoles. The oft-requested (and top priority) feature for Microsoft is now running on developer kits.

Over the weekend, head of Xbox Phil Spencer shared the image above on Twitter. “Nice to finally be doing this on my Xbox One dev kit,” he writes.

Note that the image also indicates a unified set of options for video capture and screenshots. It doesn’t quite have the sting of an opponent hearing “Xbox, record that” over Xbox Live after you deliver a killing blow, though.

Microsoft recently rolled out the February Xbox One update, which improves party chat and implements game hubs. For more on that, check out our previous coverage.

Our Take
I’m eagerly awaiting this feature, as it’s one I use more than I ever anticipated on the PlayStation 4. I’m currently playing Dying Light on my Xbox One, and there are plenty of great shots I would love to share. Thankfully, the recording features work great, as you can see in this two-part saga of executive editor Andrew Reiner’s massive luck (and senior editor Jeff Cork’s lemming-like demise).
