Where Is Our Evolve Review?

by Jeff Marchiafava on Feb 08, 2015 at 05:00 PM

During its long road to release, Evolve has been praised by critics and gamers alike, thanks to numerous hands-on appearances at trade shows and successful alpha and beta play tests. That positive atmosphere is likely why 2K has lifted the review embargo for Evolve two days before its official release. We've played a ton Evolve over the past week, but our review isn't quite ready.

While we've played Evolve extensively amongst ourselves in the office on the game's pre-launch test servers, we feel it's important to see how the official servers fare when the game launches. Despite the solo-play options, Evolve is a competitive and cooperative-focused multiplayer game at its heart, and we want our experience and review to reflect what our readers are getting. That's simply not possible without playing with the public when the game goes live on Tuesday.

In the meantime, I can tell you that I'm having a lot of fun with Evolve, and that the game shines when playing with friends. If you enjoyed the alpha and beta, you'll probably enjoy the final game as well. On the other hand, if you're not sold on playing a multiplayer-focused title or you're worried that the 4v1 format won't hold your interest for an extended period of time, you may want to wait a few more days for our full review. For more of our early thoughts on the game, check out our new Test Chamber of Evolve's Defense mode.
