Konami Sales Level In Fiscal Third Quarter FY15, Though Few Upcoming Titles

by Mike Futter on Feb 05, 2015 at 03:17 AM

Konami has reported its earnings for the third fiscal quarter for the current year. The company had level sales, but a jump in net income for the period.

The publisher reports net revenue of ¥57.17 billion ($486.5 million) compared to ¥58.02 billion ($493.7 million) in the same quarter last year. Net income increased drastically to ¥3.63 billion ($30.9 million) from ¥838 million ($7.1 million) in the previous year.

Looking ahead, Konami’s pipeline has some titles for arcades in Japan and two upcoming mobile titles in that market. As for consoles, the company has a baseball game coming to PlayStation 3 and Vita in Japan and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain slated for worldwide release.

Metal Gear is still dated loosely for sometime in 2015. We expect Konami to start getting a bit more specific about that in the coming months.

Our Take
While Konami seems to have seen some lift this quarter, the lack of upcoming titles other than Metal Gear Solid V is concerning. While I have no doubt that The Phantom Pain will perform exceedingly well, all of the eggs are in that basket. Any delay or stumble would have significant impact on Konami’s financial position.
