Deep Silver Bringing Free-To-Play All Points Bulletin: Reloaded To Consoles

by Mike Futter on Jan 22, 2015 at 05:24 AM

Deep Silver has announced a deal with Reloaded Games and The Workshop Entertainment to bring APB: Reloaded to consoles. The free-to-play title is headed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The Workshop Entertainment has played a role in bringing The Evil Within to consoles and developed the Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage DLC in partnership with Gearbox. APB: Reloaded is planned for console release this spring.

The title will be free-to-play on consoles also, with in-game purchases available for gear, vehicles, and customization items. As with all free-to-play games, a PlayStation Plus membership is not required. Xbox One players will need a Gold subscription.

Our Take
This is a surprising move for Deep Silver, but one that makes sense. Free-to-play certainly has enormous revenue potential and hitching onto a game that already has a large user base is far less risky than going all-in with an untested game. I suspect that the risk is mitigated and potential profits significant.
