Yes, That Was A Battletoads Logo On Head Of Xbox Phil Spencer’s Shirt

by Mike Futter on Jan 21, 2015 at 08:33 AM

Remember back in November when we reported that a new Battletoads trademark had appeared in the United States Patent and Trademark Office database? Well, at the time, Microsoft didn’t have much to say. Today, there’s hope that the blemished trio of toads may make a return.

During his portion of the Windows 10 briefing, head of Xbox Phil Spencer was wearing one of his famous gaming t-shirts. Most of the time, these are related to announced or released titles. Not today, though.

The shirt was adorned with a silver Battletoads emblem. Rare's classic series was short-lived, but adored for its challenge. Now, Microsoft owns Rare and has the ability to bring the franchise back. E3 isn’t too far away, and we wouldn’t rule out finding just what’s going on with that trademark soon.

Our Take
As much as I love Phantom Dust, I was stunned when it was announced at E3 2014. Battletoads has a much larger nostalgia pull, and I have no doubt that there would be more than a little excitement over a reboot announcement.
